The Zug U14s travelled to Riviera last Sunday to compete in a tournament against clubs from the west of Switzerland. On a warm spring day the mood of the tournament was one of fun, anticipation, and excitement.
Zug got off to a slow start against a combined Morges/Valais side, conceding 2 tries in quick succession as they struggled to build as a team and control the game. Half time gave them time to regroup and recalibrate. They came out strongly in the second half and quickly scored two tries to level the game. The contest was hard and Zug needed to keep their structure to hold out. A last minute break away, followed by some poor tackling from Zug allowed the opposition to score a last minute try to win the game.
The team learned from their mistakes in the first match, and the next two games against Riviera and a combined Lausanne/Yverdon side saw Zug dominate both games with their excellent attacking play in the backs and some powerful running from the forwards.
Zug U14s play again this weekend and host Lausanne, Cern, and Morges/Valais at home in Baar. Kick off 12:30. It is sure to be an excellent event with a BBQ, drinks and good rugby to watch.
