In an exciting return to league fixtures following a lengthy winter break, the Zug U16 rugby team faced off against PAC Geneva in a top-of-the-table showdown. The match, held on a wet and muddy pitch in Geneva, saw both teams enter the fray with determination and a strong desire to secure victory.
Zug opened the scoring with a penalty after just 12 minutes into the match. Four minutes later, another penalty was awarded to Zug after PAC were deemed offside and Zug extended their lead further.
Responding to their early setbacks, PAC intensified their efforts and capitalized on a lineout, driving over the tryline to score their first points. However, Zug quickly regained momentum, bolstered by impressive defensive work that allowed Fitzpatrick to intercept a pass and sprint 30 meters to add another try, bringing the score to 11-5 in favor of Zug after 20 minutes.
As the match progressed, both teams engaged in a fierce exchange of tackles and defensive strategies. Before halftime, PAC managed to break through once more, using a driving maul to reach the line. The try was converted, placing the home side in the lead at 14-11.
The second half commenced with the same intensity exhibited in the first, highlighted by a quick-thinking penalty taken by Renaudie, who darted over the line for a try, putting Zug back in the lead. Nonetheless, PAC retaliated, successfully driving over the line to take the advantage at 19-18.
The final moments of the match showcased relentless commitment from both teams, marked by exceptional attacking plays. With just four minutes remaining, PAC was penalized for offside on their 22-meter line. Zug opted to kick for goal, and Zug’s successful conversion put them ahead 21-19.
The last three minutes saw both sides battling fiercely to secure the win. However, an unfortunate knock-on ended the match, resulting in a hard-fought victory for Zug. The final score reflected the intensity and excitement of the encounter, as Zug U16 claimed a well-deserved triumph over PAC.
